Are You a Worry Wart? Here Are Some Easy Ways To Stop Your Stress
Delta variant on the rise throughout our area, school kids going back to school, mask mandate pressure, Afghanistan. Almost everywhere we turn, stress is ready to smack us in the face. What can we do? Prayer is always a good idea but if that's not your thing, here are some other ways to stop your stress.
Ways To Stop Your Stress
Keep a journal. I was just having a conversation with a friend of mine over the Labor Day holiday, they were stressing about the weekend weather, money, and time management.
I told him to write everything down, then after the weekend was over, I had him review what was bothering him. I asked him how did things end up? Turns out that he had worried and stressed for nothing. Many more times than not, it turns out for the better.
Hop off the worry train. Just because you are positive that something will go wrong, you don't need to ride the "what if" train. In fact, find someone and get on the "even if" track. Instead of "what if" something goes wrong, think "even if" something goes wrong.
Changing your mindset will help you to quit wasting your energy on worry. You'll find yourself trying to fix everything, even if it doesn't exist.
Peel an orange. The next time that you find yourself at a stressfest party, try grabbing an orange. Peel the skin back and smell the citrus scent, and take in the smells. This can help stop you from worrying about the future and just enjoy the present.
Get nostalgic. Think about the big events in your life. For me, it's the birth of my daughter, Tara, my radio job, and getting my convertible. When you think back, you don't remember the stress with the experiences, just the pleasant result.
So if you have a current worry, remind yourself that this too will pass. In fact, I can only think of one regret but I'm not going to let that worry me today. I feel better already.
Hey look, here are more ways to ease your stress and give yourself a mental boost.
