Officials in the Broome County Office of Emergency Services are continuing to deal with the aftermath of a strong line of thunderstorms that brought down trees, utility poles and power lines throughout the region early April 15.

In a 10 a.m. statement, officials said they were monitoring the outages and damage county-wide with the ares most impacted in the Towns of Binghamton and Conklin and in the Harpursville area,

Residents are reminded "Do not touch downed lines or anyone in contact with the line. You should always assume that a downed line is live."

Power outages should be reported to New York State Electric and Gas at 1-800-572-1131.  Estimated power restoration times can be found on at NYSEG.com.

Emergencies should be reported by calling 911.

Motorists throughout the day should be aware of changing weather situations and be prepared for a sudden change in planned travel routes.  New detours could come up due to the expectation of continued rain and winds gusting over 20 mph.
