Yes, There Are Still Dry Towns in New York State
Binghamton On Tap is less then two months away. It's taking place on Saturday, March 25th with two sessions at 5 p.m. (VIP) and 6 p.m. (General). This event continues to grow, so we are at a new location this year at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.
Ticket prices go up as time goes by so do you have your tickets yet? We know that Binghamton isn't a dry place but did you know that there are that are seven dry towns and thirty nine partially dry towns in New York.
New York Dry Towns
There are a few dry towns in our area including Berkshire in Tioga County and Lapeer in Cortland County. There are ten towns that don't allow on-premise consumption but they permit off-premises purchases.
The town of Spencer in Tioga County allows only off-premises and special on-premises consumption. You can see the rest of the list here. So the next question question could be, what is the NYS BYOB (Bring Your Own Beer) policy.
New York State "Bring Your Own Beer" Policy
The New York State Liquor Authority (NYSLA) doesn't let you BYOB to an establishment that doesn't have a license or permit to sell alcohol. The only exception is if the establishment has less than 20 seats.
By the way, the SLA doesn't have the authority to take any direct action against an establishment that's not licensed with the SLA unless the establishment is currently applying (or will apply in the future) for a liquor license.
The good news is that you won't have to BYOB when you come to BOT (Binghamton On Tap) on Saturday, March 25th at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. While we wait, here are some pictures from the last two Binghamton On Tap events. Were you there? How many people do you recognize?
