A store that had been a fixture in a downtown Binghamton neighborhood for three-and-a-half decades has closed its doors.

The Binghamton Floor Store at 154 Susquehanna Street opened in late 1985. Owner Tony Cherrone recently informed customers he had decided "to start a new phase of life and retire." The store specialized in carpeting, ceramic tile and hardwood flooring.

In a message posted to Facebook, Cherrone thanked the store's customers for their support over the years. He also thanked the installers he had worked with since he opened the business.

Several customers posted congratulatory messages and thanked Cherrone for the service he and the store had provided to the Binghamton area.
