Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti took a resolute stand on April 3, 2025, as the courtroom witnessed an admission of guilt from Joshua D. Dooley of Johnson City.

Dooley faced charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in Broome County Court.

The Troubling Incident

The troubling incident took place on November 25, 2024, when Johnson City Police rushed to 180 Harrison Street in Johnson City in response to a distressing call. There, they say they found a disturbing scene unfolding.

According to authorities, Dooley forcefully took his three-week-old daughter from her mother, who was trying to soothe the crying baby. After snatching the infant, Dooley acted cruelly, shaking the helpless child and demanding her silence. He then returned the baby to her bassinet, but the argument continued. As the baby continued to cry, Dooley struck her on the face.

A Determined Search for Justice

District Attorney Battisti, with unwavering determination, declared, "No child should ever endure such cruelty and abuse. Acts of violence against the most vulnerable members of our community will not be tolerated." His heartfelt words reflected how the whole community came together to speak out against such awful actions following the incident in November.
