If you’ve been daydreaming about the perfect kitchen, you’re not alone. A new study from Wren Kitchens looked at more than 24,000 homes for sale across New York, and the results show that New York City is leading the way when it comes to feature-packed kitchens.

With a desirability score of 99 out of 100, kitchens in the Big Apple stand out with things like beverage centers, hardwood floors, and custom cabinetry.

Buffalo and Rochester Make the List Too

New York City came out on top but Buffalo and Rochester also showed up as places where buyers are finding kitchens with great features. Buffalo earned a 4.8 out of 100 and Rochester landed at 3.6 out of 100. Other cities like Binghamton, Schenectady, and Syracuse ranked lower, suggesting that buyers in those areas have fewer “dream kitchen” features to choose from.

The Features Buyers Want Most

The study also revealed which features are showing up the most across homes in the Empire State.

Beverage centers (27,100 mentions)
Hardwood flooring (16,647 mentions)
Natural light (6,310 mentions)

From beverage centers and hardwood floors that make a home feel warm and inviting, to kitchens designed with bright, open spaces, these features are at the top of the buyers’ wish lists.

Why Kitchens Are More Than Just for Cooking

According to Wren Kitchens, the kitchen has become more than a place to make dinner. It’s a reflection of lifestyle and personality. That’s why custom details like kitchen islands, smart technology, and built-in cabinetry are growing in popularity.

The Importance of Smart Storage

One of the biggest complaints homeowners share after a remodel is not having enough storage. Designers recommend thinking about how you really live day-to-day before finalizing your plans. Some families may prefer pull-out units for easy access, while others want more hidden storage to cut down on clutter.

 Kitchen Trends for 2025

New Yorkers are leaning toward kitchens that combine timeless style with personal touches. Wood accents are staying strong, but many are embracing statement backsplashes and colorful tiles to add character. When it comes to countertops, options like quartz are becoming a go-to choice, helping kitchens stand the test of time.
