K9 Deputy “Eli” is named after the 1st Delaware County Sheriff, Elias Butler, who served from 1797 to 1799.

The new Police Dog and Handler, Deputy Kyle Karcher of Hancock will be trained in narcotics detection, search and rescue, tracking and handler protection. That training was scheduled to begin October 28.

Eli is a 2-year-old German Shepherd from Hungary that was hand-selected for his genetic makeup  which is deemed ideal for police work.
