A Cortland County farm owner died after a tractor he was operating overturned and rolled on top of him.

Authorities say the incident happened at a farm on McGraw Marathon Road in the town of Freetown. Emergency crews were dispatched around 5:25 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say the man was using the tractor to move equipment. He was pulling a wagon up a slight grade when the tractor overturned.

The man was pinned under the tractor. Family members who were working nearby used a jack to free him.

The man was treated at the scene for severe internal injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where he was pronounced dead.

The man's name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.

Investigators did not indicate whether snowy conditions or other factors may have caused the tractor to overturn.
