I don't know about you but I'm thrilled that fairs and festivals are returning for the summer of 2021. I was beginning to get worried when I heard that events like Owego's Strawberry Fest and Binghamton's July Fest would be postponed again this year.

One event is returning this year and it promises to be a "merry" weekend of fun. It's the 132nd Afton Fair going on now through Sunday, July 11th and their theme is "Christmas in July."

This year's fair is dedicated to Tammy Rae Palmetier, who lost her life in February at the young age of 57. She was a big supporter of the Afton Fair and did so much for the community. You can read about her courageous battle against cancer and the difference that she made in our area here.

Christmas In July At The Afton Fair

The Afton Fair began on Thursday night, July 8th with their community parade (dedicated to everyone that didn't have a Christmas parade last year) and ending with fireworks.

It's a short  30-minute drive from Binghamton and has a little bit of everything including tractor pulls, demolition derbies, horse shows, cornhole tournament, live music, and more. We can't forget about the ice cream to keep us cool or the fair food. Is it me or is there something special about fair food?

We are all thrilled that this summer tradition is back and it looks like the weather will cooperate this weekend. You can go here to keep up with all the latest details and to see the complete schedule of events
