People interested in becoming a Broome County sheriff's deputy are being encouraged to sign up to take a competitive examination.

Sgt. Sam Davis, the director of training for the sheriff's office, says the application deadline is March 24. The application is available by clicking HERE.

The civil service exam will be administered on May 15. An exam also will be given the same day for people interested in becoming police officers with Binghamton, Johnson City, Endicott, Vestal and Port Dickinson departments. There is a $30 non-refundable fee for each exam.

Those who wish to participate in the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy must pass a physical fitness test.
