Broome New COVID Infections Continue Decline
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar predicts it will be another couple of months before Broome is back to seeing new COVID-19 infection rates in the single digits.
In his weekly update February 3, the executive announced there had been 201 new cases in the county on February 2nd and while those numbers are greatly reduced from the new infections during a record spike in mid-January, they are still about double the numbers from February of last year.
Broome County also reports six additional deaths since Garnar’s last update January 27. Five of those deaths were reported on February 2nd and one more added in the Thursday update. Broome has lost 485 residents to the pandemic.

Residents are encouraged to continue to get tested for COVID-19 in settings outside of the still-stressed hospitals if they aren’t feeling well. Garnar says the testing site at the Broome County Health Department has plenty of appointments available for rapid returns in 15 minutes or less and walk-ins began to be accepted this week. Testing is also done Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the State site at Davis College and weekdays at the former Press printing facility in Johnson City.
The Democrat adds wearing masks remains important in stopping the spread and people should stay home if they don’t feel well.
