Broome Hospitals Get the Green Light for Elective Surgeries

Hospitals in Broome County will be able to resume elective surgeries. 

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced April 29 35 counties are cleared to resume the non-emergency procedures that are the financial life-blood of health care institutions.

There is no word from Lourdes or UHS on just when those surgeries will be scheduled but officials have said they would be in contact with individual patients who have had procedures ranging from cancer treatments to orthopedic surgery delayed for possibly more than a month and a half as hospitals have focused attention and capacity on treating the coronavirus.

The Governor said a few counties failed to meet the requirements for a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases to be cleared right now for elective surgeries.

One of the counties that the state says will not be allowed to conduct non-emergency surgery is Tioga County, which doesn’t have a hospital within its borders.
