Broome County has now passed 17,000 cases of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic 13 months ago.  Broome reported 70 new cases April 20 for a total of 17,050.

The majority of the cases have been concentrated in the population centers of the City of Binghamton with 4,330 cases to date and the Town of Vestal with 2,665 cases.  Both of those areas have a high concentration of student housing.

According to the SUNY COVID Tracker, Binghamton University is showing higher rates of new infection than many other SUNY campuses in the region with nine students infected over the past three days and 23 over the past seven days for an average of .29%.

SUNY Broome had one employee test positive for the past week and no students. The four SUNY Cornell campuses had four new cases and SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oneonta, which had been hot spots in the past, had 7 new cases and 2 new cases, respectively, over the past seven days.
