Road Work Ahead: What to Expect on Broome County Roads Starting July 14
If you’ve got places to be next week, you’ll want to keep an eye on Broome County roadways starting Monday, July 14. The Department of Public Works is rolling out a full slate of maintenance projects, and while they’re all necessary, they might slow you down a bit during your drive.
Ditch Cleaning and Shoulder Repairs
Crews will be out cleaning ditches and rebuilding shoulders on South Street, Farm to Market Road, Brady Hill Road, Ballyhack Road, and Stratmill Road. This work helps with proper drainage and keeps roads from deteriorating too quickly, especially during heavy rain.
Paving and Pavement Work
Loughlin Road (County Route 169), from NYS Route 11 to Old State Road, is getting paved, weather permitting. Meanwhile, Cherry Valley Hill Road will see pavement work as well. Expect lane closures and possible detours in these areas.
Culvert and Storm Cleanup
Hyde Street and Old State Road are due for culvert work, which could mean some temporary access issues. Crews will also be cleaning up tree limbs and other debris leftover from recent storms on multiple county roadways.
Roadside Mowing and Line Painting
It’s also mowing season, and several county roads will get a trim along the right-of-way. In addition, line painting is planned on various roads. This can cause brief slowdowns or lane shifts, so just stay alert and watch for flaggers.

A Friendly Reminder for Drivers
Even if a work zone looks quiet, it might still be active, or about to be. Road conditions can change quickly as construction progresses, so it's always smart to slow down and stay aware. Give yourself a few extra minutes for your commute and be patient with the crews working to keep our roads in good shape.
