Paving and Delays Scheduled for These Broome County Roads Starting Tuesday
If you're heading back to your morning commute after the Memorial Day holiday, you might want to leave a few minutes early.
The Broome County Department of Public Works has announced a big wave of roadwork beginning Tuesday, May 26th. From major repaving projects to striping trucks, crews will be active across the county.
Here is the breakdown of exactly which roads are affected so you can plan your detour.
Heavy Delays: Major Paving Projects
Expect alternating one-lane traffic, flaggers, and loose stone on these stretches. Paving is weather-dependent, so unexpected rain could push these timelines back.
- Reynolds Road (CR 085): Crews will be active from East Maine Road to Deyo Hill Road.
- Lower Stella Ireland Road (CR 093): Work spans from East Maine Road all the way to the cul-de-sac.
- Middle Stella Ireland Road (CR 097): Expect delays between Lewis Road and Country Trail.
- Cutler Pond Road (CR 075): Entire stretch subject to delays.
- Lt. Van Winkle Drive (CR 070): Full stretch paving.
Lane Restrictions: Ditch & Culvert Maintenance
Crews will be clearing blockages and replacing pipes. While not as disruptive as paving, expect sudden stops and heavy machinery on the shoulders.
- Ditch Cleaning: Active on River Road (Chenango Bridge), Old Route 17, and Ballyhack Road.
- Culvert Work: Expect restricted lanes on East Maine Road, Oquaga Lake Road, and East Windsor Road.

Moving Work Zones: Mowing, Sweeping, and Striping
These crews move slowly. If you get stuck behind them, be patient; passing can be dangerous.
- Windsor & Deposit Areas: Road sweeping crews will be clearing winter debris from the curbs.
- County-Wide: Large paint trucks will be out refreshing road striping. Keep your distance to avoid wet paint splatters on your car.
- County-Wide: Right-of-way mowing tractors will be active on roadsides. Watch for flying debris.
A Note on Safety: The DPW reminds drivers that work zones can change rapidly even when workers aren't visibly active. Slow down, stay off your phone, and give yourself an extra 10–15 minutes if your daily route is on this list.
