In spite of the costs of dealing with the pandemic and a lack of support from the federal government, Broome County is getting some good financial news.   

The County is no longer on New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s Fiscal Stress list.

Broome in 2016 was listed as having significant fiscal stress while the next two years it was “susceptible.” 

The numbers are based on such factors as fund balance, amount of borrowing, tax burden and revenue streams. 

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar credits his administration for working to build the county reserves while cutting property taxes.
