For the last couple of years, our local fairs had to adjust the way they operated because of the pandemic. COVID is still among us but things are returning to normal for our county and state fairs.

I love that there is a fair happening every weekend (until Labor Day) in our area or just a short drive away from Binghamton. Here are the fairs that I'm aware of

Windsor Town Fair - It's at Klump Park from Thursday, July 21 to Sunday, July 24.  I'll be honest, I didn't know that there was a fair in Windsor until my friend, Paul Noyd told me was singing there on Thursday.

It's too late to hear him perform but there is still rides, live music, Animal Adventure, Fireworks on Saturday, July 23 and a car show on Sunday, July 24th beginning at 10 a.m.

Broome County Fair - The 147th Broome County Fair is at the Broome County Fairgrounds from Tuesday, July 26 until Sunday, July 31. It begins on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with their kickoff parade.

This is one of my favorite fairs because of the variety of activities they offer. There are demo derbies, tractor pulls and driver stunt show. They also are about promoting agriculture. They partner with the Broome County 4-H and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Tioga County Fair - The Tioga County Fair is at the Tioga County Fairgrounds in Owego from Tuesday, August 9 to Sunday, August 14. It kicks off with the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo. Local contestants can enter this competition too.

They also have a demolition derby, truck & tractor pull, lumberjack competition and East Coast professional wrestling. Last year, my daughter, Tara saw the demo derby for the first time and she can't wait to go again this year.

Kirkwood Town Fair - The Kirkwood Town Fair kicks off with a parade on August 13 and their theme is "Back in Time - 1982" as they are celebrating 40 years of the fair.

They are having their 5th annual "Best Burger" contest.on Friday, August 12. You have until Monday, August 8 to register. HMMMM! Burgers.

Harford Fair - The Harford Fair in Milford Pa from Monday, August 15th to Saturday, August 20. They've been celebrating agriculture, family and community since 1858. Every year, I look forward to corn from the roasted corn stand and Strawberry Shortcake from the Montrose band stand.

It begins on Monday, August 15 at 9 a.m. with the Harford Baby Show. Don't forget about the Harford Fair Queen contest with applications due by Monday, August 1. Tyler Farr will be there on Thursday, August 18th.

Great New York State Fair - The Great New York State Fair is at the NYS fairgrounds in Syracuse from August 24 to September 5. The is the fair that unofficially brings the summer to an end.

There is free music with paid admission at the Chevy Court and Chevy Park. Music for all ages and genres from Gin Blossoms, Big & Rich, Midnight Star (Operator), Ernest, 38 Special to Nelly and more.

Agriculture exhibits galore along with rides, rides, rides. We can't forget about the butter sculpture (I wonder what it'll be this year) and my personal favorite 25 cent milk.

There you go, something for everyone this summer. In the words of Bill Engvall, it's time to be go to the Fair and I hope to see you there.
