According to Broome County's COVID-19 dashboard, there are now 98 people hospitalized.


ORIGINAL STORY:

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Broome County is taking a big jump while hospitalizations reach a new record.

Broome reported 132 new cases December 29, bringing its total to 7,680 while a record 89 people were being treated at UHS and Lourdes hospitals. Broome has reported 174 deaths since the start of the pandemic.  New York State reported hospitalizations reached more than 7,800 December 29, the highest since May 7.

Elsewhere in the Southern Tier, there were two additional deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Chenango County for a total of 18 and one new death reported in Cortland County for a total of 35. Most of those deaths reported in Cortland County were at nursing homes. Cortland County had 36 new cases added December 29 for a total of 2,374 while Chenango reports 21 new cases for a total of 1,129.

There were no additional deaths in Broome, Delaware or Tioga Counties.  Delaware reports 12 new cases for a total of 689 with 12 deaths while Tioga County reports 25 additional case for a total of 1,651. There have been 64 lives lost due to the pandemic.
