Something special is going on with local athletes.  The 2014 Regional Spring Special Olympic Games will take place this Saturday with a 10am opening ceremony at the Chenango Valley High School track and field.

14 teams representing Apalachin, Binghamton, BOCES, Broome Developmental Center, Harpursville, Johnson City, Kirkwood, Maine Endwell, Newark Valley, Tioga, Vestal and Pathfinder Village from Edmunsen will compete under the Special Olympics banner.

The ceremonies will kick off with each team being introduced on the track and athletes from various teams lighting the torch, followed by a variety of track and field events, beginning with the 1500 meter run at 10:30am.

Throughout the day, come cheer on local athletes as they compete in sprints, softball throws, shot put, long jump, and new this year, the turbo javelin.  The games will end with most of the teams competing in the 4x100 relays.
