Binghamton Popeyes Restaurant Copes with Lack of Chicken and Fish
People in the mood for a chicken sandwich from the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant on Binghamton's West Side may be in for a disappointment.
The manager of the Popeyes location at 164 Main Street on Tuesday said the place has run of the chicken used in its popular classic and spicy sandwiches.
She said supplies of chicken fillets were exhausted Monday. And although the sign in front of the restaurant promoted "flounder sandwiches," she said they are out of fish, too.
The manager said the shortage of chicken and fish apparently is affecting Popeyes restaurants in the region. The Binghamton location is the only Popeyes operation in Broome County.
She said she's not sure when there will be more chicken and fish for sandwiches. She said she's expecting a delivery "in a couple of days."
While supply issues are affecting sandwiches, the manager said there now appears to be an adequate amount of Popeyes new chicken nuggets. They were added to the menu on July 27.
The opening of the Main Street Popeyes restaurant in December 2015 generated plenty of excitement because it was the chain's first unit in the Binghamton area.
Popeyes is credited with starting a "chicken war" among U.S. restaurant chains when it introduced its speciality sandwich in 2019.
While the Binghamton Popeyes restaurant was unable to sell its popular sandwiches, the Burger King unit about a mile west on Main Street had plenty of chicken on hand Tuesday.
Employees there appeared to be shocked when they were told that Popeyes had run out of chicken for its sandwich-loving customers.
