Any artists that may be aware of the Binghamton mural contest wrapping up Sunday (July 17), may be hard at work today finalizing their work proposals for the weekend deadline.

The contest is sure bring new needed light and color to the back of the Binghamton K-Mart Plaza, overlooking the river on Front Street.  And the winner gets bragging rights AND $1000 cash.

While the contest is open to all artists, it's my hope that the winner is actually from the Southern Tier, unlike the past mural contests and recent bike rack design contest that awarded people from outside the area.  Judges: c'mon, let's try this time to keep it local by awarding local talented artists.

Designs can be anything that portrays "Binghamton's strengths and beauty."  The possibilities are endless and it will be interesting to what the entries are and what the winning piece will depict.

The mural contest also is being sponsored by the City of Binghamton, the Department of Public Art, a community nonprofit, and is part of the new Mural Fest 2016, which will take place September 17th at Cheri Lindsey Park.
