A motorcyclist died after losing control of his bike at a highway interchange in the city of Binghamton.

Authorities say 31-year-old Christopher Caletka of Binghamton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. It happened on the ramp from Interstate 81 South to Route 17 West in the area of Kamikaze Curve.

Investigators say speed is believed to be a contributing factor. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle weaving in and out of traffic just prior to the crash, which occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The bike veered from the passing lane into the driving lane before hitting some gravel. It then is said to have slid into a guiderail before spinning out.

Detectives are still working to determine whether any other vehicles may have been involved in the crash.
