Broome County Republicans gathered at Terra Cotta on State Street in downtown Binghamton.

About an hour after the polls closed, David spoke to supporters. He said Binghamton voters had been presented with a choice: "That choice was a third term of former Mayor Matt Ryan or a second term of Mayor Rich David... and the voters spoke loudly and decisively."

A few minutes later during a live interview on WNBF Radio, Abdelazim expressed disappointment in the outcome. But, he said, he started the races "as the underdog knowing it would be a pretty steep climb." He noted he announced his candidacy less than four months ago with "zero dollars in the bank when my opponent had over 70,000."

Abdelazim said he was proud of the campaign he ran. He declined to speculate on his political future.

In Tioga County, Republican town of Owego supervisor Donald Castellucci was re-elected. He defeated Democrat Cecilia Menhennett by a margin of 404 to 315 votes.
