Binghamton High Students and Staff Make Thanksgiving Special
Hundreds of people had their Thanksgiving made extra special with a community dinner served up by Binghamton High School students, faculty and staff in the school's main cafeteria. This was the 24th year they have volunteered their time and efforts to provide a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for families and individuals who wanted to take part. The meal is provided free of charge and is made available to anyone in the community. Not only is it a great meal but the warmth, kindness and hospitality exhibited by the volunteers makes every one feel welcome. Hundreds turned out to enjoy turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and all the trimmings.
Senior student organizer Isaac Karp told WNBF News that approximately 120 Binghamton High School students took part in preparations, serving and other duties. Along with the students an additional 30 volunteers from staff and faculty took part.
Karp praised his fellow students as well as the faculty and staff who gave up much of their holiday to give something special back to the community. There was plenty of food and Karp said the prepared dinner items included:
300 pounds of turkey
300 pounds of stuffing
600 pounds of potatoes
200 pounds of sweet potatoes
30 gallons of gravy
80 pounds of corn and
100 pies.
