Binghamton Drug Dealer Sentenced to Prison

A Binghamton man is to spend ten years in prison for dealing drugs in the region.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office says 38-year-old Shandel Terry pleaded guilty to felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree in Broome County Court on Friday, July 15.

He was arrested on March 23 of 2021 following a raid by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force at an apartment at 31 Griswold Street in Binghamton.

The authorities say they found Terry was in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine and fentanyl. Investigators say they determined Terry intended to sell the illicit drugs in the area.

Under the plea agreement, Terry was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Joseph Cawley to ten years in New York State Prison followed by three years post-release supervision by the New York State division of parole.

Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak issued a statement following the July 15^th sentencing regarding the case.  Korchak said, “This defendant is a career drug dealer with a criminal history dating back to 2001. Our community is safer with him out of circulation.”

The case was prosecuted in Broome County Court on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Nieto of the District Attorney’s Office of Narcotics Bureau.

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree is a Class B felony and carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. A search of penal code shows a person with a previous conviction could expect ten years in prison while someone with no prior conviction could be sentenced to five years in prison.  Monetary fines could also be imposed.
