December was a fantastic month for the Binghamton Black Bears both on and off the ice and they look to keep it going in the new year. Off the ice, the Black Bears broke the FPHL record for most stuffed animals tossed on the ice (1,267) on Teddy Bear Toss Night.

In fact, they broke two records that evening when they scored in the first 12 seconds of the game. That's the fastest Teddy Bear Toss Night goal in all of hockey, not just in the FPHL.

The real winner was the Child Advocacy Center at the Crime Victims Assistance Center. The Binghamton Black Bears (along with me and my daughter Tara) took all of the stuffed animals and teddy bears and gave them a new home at CVAC.

On the ice, it was December domination with the Bears as they went 7-1-0 for the month, as they outscored the competition by a 47-20 margin. Tyler Gjurich's scored his 300th professional goal at the arena.

It's a new year and the Black Bears look to keep the momentum going at the Vision Veterans Memorial Arena. It's a full weekend of hockey when the Port Huron Prowlers come to Binghamton.

Friday is Mascot Mania night with a pre-game kids club mascot meet-n-greet with Bingo the Black Bear. Saturday is National Bobblehead Day and the first 1,000 fans to the game will get a Bingo the Black Bear bobblehead.

Face-off both nights is at 7 p.m. and I'll be hosting Chuck-a-Puck between the 2nd and 3rd period. All season long, the Black Bears are celebrating 50 years of professional hockey in Binghamton.

In fact, on Saturday, January 14th, they'll be wearing 50th anniversary jerseys. As we wait for that night, let's look back at the team that started it all off.
