Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By SUV on Route 369 Near Port Crane

The driver of a sport utility vehicle has been arrested following a deadly hit-and-run crash involving a bicycle in the town of Fenton.

The collision was reported around 10:10 p.m. Saturday on Route 369.

When Broome County sheriff's deputies got to the scene, they discovered the SUV had left the area.

The suspect vehicle was found a short time later by a state trooper. It was disabled on the side of the highway about one mile north of where the collision occurred.

Authorities say two teenagers had been riding bicycles on the east shoulder of Route 369 between the white fog line and the edge of the pavement.

The bicyclists were traveling south when a northbound SUV swerved onto the shoulder and struck one of them.

The bicyclist came to rest in the brush off the east side of the roadway and died as a result of serious injuries.

The SUV driver was found at a nearby home and taken into custody. Investigators say charges are pending.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office has not released the names of those involved in the crash.

Route 369 was closed between Lock Street and the exit ramp from Interstate 88 for the crash investigation.
