After more than 15 months, city-owned orange barricades that have been lining the street next to the downtown Binghamton Boscov's store may be hauled away.

The barricades along Water Street were put in place in January 2020 after concerns about possible loose concrete on an exterior wall of the department store building.

The wall was inspected after someone noticed a possible crack. It's not clear whether any repair work was ordered.

Mayor Richard David was asked why the city barricades have been outside the store for over a year. He said: "It probably is time for those to be removed."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, David said he believed Boscov's had been doing work around the building's roof. He said that work should be about complete and the barricades will "most likely be removed very shortly."

A Boscov's representative could not be reached for comment on the status of any work being done on the building.
