Anthony Brindisi Says He Won't Run for Congress Next Year

Former congressman Anthony Brindisi has announced he does not intend to seek election to the House again in 2022.

The Utica Democrat was first elected to represent the 22nd Congressional District in 2018 when he defeated incumbent Republican Claudia Tenney in a close contest.

Brindisi and Tenney ran against each other again in 2020. That race was even tighter than the first.

A judge eventually certified the results of the election in early February, giving Tenney a 109-vote margin of victory.

Brindisi released a statement Thursday indicating he "will not be running for Congress again in 2022."

Brindisi said: "This is a crucial time in my kids’ lives, with my son starting high school and daughter entering her final year of elementary school. I’ve missed a lot, and want to be closer to my family."
