Patsy Cline Off-Broadway Musical Coming To Johnson City New York
Even though our world is still being affected by the coronavirus pandemic, I'm glad to see that some things continue to try and get back to normal. Live shows were put on hold in 2020 but they have been returning in 2021.
One of the things that I've missed seeing was the local plays and musicals. My daughter Tara loves to perform and I'm looking forward to seeing her one last time onstage at Chenango Valley for her senior year.
There's another place that I'm glad is back and it's the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage in Johnson City. After a year and a half of canceled shows, they are bringing local entertainment and talent back to the stage for us to enjoy.
Most of us have heard the story about country legend Pasty Cline, as she died tragically at the age of 30 in a plane crash in 1963. Her story has been made into an off-Broadway musical called "Always...Patsy Cline."
Always...Patsy Cline
This show is based on a true story about Cline's friendship with a fan from Houston named Louside Seger. They met in 1961 corresponded until Cline's death. The musical got its name from Cline's letters to Seger as she would end her letters with "Love ALWAYS...Patsy Cline
It has enjoyed great success and now it's coming to our area. SRO Productions III is bringing the story to the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage in Johnson City this weekend, November 12th through November 14th. Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
SRO Productions III is a non-profit community theater and has been bringing Broome County and Theater together for 35 years. All the performers and backstage crew donate their time to bring quality entertainment to our area.
Directed by George Kurbaba, the original cast from the 2018 production will be back with Alex Mendoza as Patsy and Lynette Daniels as Louise. The show will also feature a live band led by music director, Vicky Gordon with 27 songs in all including Cline's classics like Crazy and I Fall to Pieces.
During the past year and a half, we've been encouraging everyone to shop local and help our community. Here is a way to help our area while having a good time at the same time.
