Several weeks after someone fatally shot 12-year-old Aliza Spencer near her Binghamton home, city police have made no arrests in the case.

Investigators have said Aliza sustained a gunshot wound to her chest around 10 p.m. April 21 as she walked with her father and brother near the family home on Bigelow Street.

The girl was shot near the intersection of Bigelow and Chamberlain streets. Police officers performed CPR until medics got to the scene. She was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.

Binghamton police detectives have declined to provide any updates on the status of the investigation. Mayor Jared Kraham and police chief Joseph Zikuski discussed the killing of the sixth grade East Middle School student briefly during a City Hall news conference on the afternoon following the killing.

Zikuski and Binghamton police detective Captain Cory Minor did not return phone calls Friday afternoon to provide a status report on the investigation.

Speaking prior to a police recognition ceremony on May 10, Zikuski said detectives had not developed a suspect in the fatal shooting.

At the time, the police chief said there was "nothing new to bring forward. We're just plugging away as we have been since it happened."

Although a $25,000 reward has been offered, Zikuski indicated police had not received many tips in the effort to find the person who killed Aliza Spencer.

People with information may contact the Binghamton police detective bureau at (607) 772-7080.
