A Johnson City Family Summer Tradition is Over

A decades-long summer tradition is over with the end of the Johnson City Field Days.

After there had been reports for several years of growing challenges in putting together the carnival off Harry L. Drive, the Village issued a news release April 13 saying the tradition was over:

It is with extreme sadness the Johnson City Celebration Committee will not continue to hold the Johnson City Field Days due to the shortage of sponsors, lack of profit and increased expenses for participating groups, and rising costs for the Celebration Committee.

Field days were meant to bring families and community together for an end of summer celebration.  In the last few years, we brought in extra police to maintain safety, but more and more issues with vandalism and disturbances have increased year to year.

We appreciate the continued support throughout the years from the Village of Johnson City, Johnson City Department of Public Works, Johnson City Police Department, local businesses, commitment of the not-for-profit organizations and the community.  The Celebration Committee will continue to hold the Lights on the Carousel during the holiday season.

There had been indications in the past few years that it was getting difficult to find new committee members that could join on and commit to organizing the event.

Other field days, including the Firemen's Field Days in Apalachin, have also recently ended.
