PennDOT says the number of people dying from drug or alcohol-related crashes, vehicle/pedestrian collisions and among older drivers are up but, overall, last year saw the third lowest number of highway fatalities recorded in the Keystone State.

PennDOT cites national data showing over 90 percent of crashes are caused by driver behavior.  Because of that, state officials in Pennsylvania are focusing on enforcement and education improvements, investing $18 million in federal grant funds statewide annually on those programs.
