Oh, say can you sing the National Anthem? You could be singing it at the Great New York State Fair. For the third year, the Great New York State Fair is having their Star Spangled Challenge and you could be one of 13 to open that days activities.

The competition for the daily slots have begun and ends on August 2nd. All you have to do is make a video of yourself singing or playing "The Star Spangled Banner." Then upload the video to the competition site on the Fair's Facebook page.

The entries will be narrowed down to the top 20. The public will then have a chance to vote for their favorite from August 9th -14th for the 13 people or groups that will perform during the Fair.

More than 300 people and groups have entered the competition since it began in 2015 and the winners have performed the song in various ways. Past winners have included a keyboard player who performed an instrumental version and an entire community chorus. The ages have ranged from young children to senior citizens.

If you don't have access to Facebook, you can e-mail the video here. Links to videos on YouTube or other video sites will not be accepted. The 13 winning performers will be notified of their performance dates.

The National Anthem is performed live on the Chevy Court stage every morning at exactly 9:58, just before the 10 am opening.

You may also be asked to perform at other Fair events, as their schedule allows. Winners will get admission tickets and parking passes, along with a $40 voucher for food at participating Fair food stands.

Public voting is limited to one vote per person and you are encouraged to share with your friends and family on Facebook to help your favorite candidate. Last year, there were four winners from the Southern Tier and we are hoping for more this year.

The Great New York State Fair runs August 23rd to September 4th.
