What New College Football Rules Mean
Syracuse University has their home opener on Saturday noon at the Carrier Dome against Northwestern. The NCAA has implemented several new rules you’ll need to know so you don’t sound like an idiot when you yell at the referee. Touchbacks will be moved up from the from the 20 to the 25 yard line on kickoffs. However, to confuse you the rule does not apply to punts or fumbles that go out of the end zone.
If a player loses his helmet, he must sit out the next play, unless it came off as the result of a penalty, like a face mask. If a ball carrier’s helmet comes off with less than one minute left in either half, there will be a 10 second runoff. A coach can use a timeout and keep the 10 seconds on the clock.
There’s many more so I would review the new rules before going to the Carrier Dome on Saturday. Let’s go ‘Cuse and we’ll see you soon at the Dome.
