There's a Vietnam veteran in Indiana named Kent Maxfield, who served over there from 1967 to 1968. That's when a lot of Americans weren't very supportive of the troops, so he wasn't greeted like much of a hero when he came home.

These days he's battling pancreatic cancer his doctors originally gave him a year to live.  But that was two years ago, and he's still fighting. Before his next round of chemo, he decided to go back to Vietnam and make his peace.  So he and a few other veterans went last month for a two week trip.

They visited some of the places they'd fought, and brought toys to kids at four different orphanages, which Kent says was the best part.  But the trip didn't end when they left.

Because when they landed in Indianapolis on Friday, dozens of people were there cheering for them, and holding up signs thanking them for their service. Then they went outside, and a bunch of police cars were waiting to escort them home.

Kent says the whole experience was amazing, and he sees the people of Vietnam in a whole new light now.
