According to Army Times, the Department of Defense will begin to to send to auction around 4,000 military grade Humvees to the general public as part of their new surplus reduction plan.

Now, normally these huge, off-road animals get sent to the military scrap yard, where a Humvee with less than 40,000 miles would be ground up and recycled. However, a contract agreement with IronPlanet.com will showcase the first 25 Humvees built between 1987 and 1994. They have a mileage counter range from 1,400 to 40,000 miles in service and have been used for cargo and troop transport.

Now the catch. All military characteristics will be stripped prior to sale and cannot be used on the road. They do not have a title, cannot be licensed and you'll have to sign an official document stating exactly what you'll be using your new toy for.

Next auction is tomorrow. Are you ready?
