Randy Travis made a rare public appearance last week, one of the few times the country legend has been seen in public since suffering a stroke last year.

Travis and his fiancee, Mary Davis, showed up at a banquet and fundraiser for the Four Rivers Outreach in Texas last Thrusday. According to its website, "Four Rivers is one of the largest nonprofit, faith-based organizations in Grayson County, providing both residential and non-residential programs for men and women who have life-controlling problems such as alcohol, drug abuse and homelessness."

Travis didn't want to speak on camera since he's still recovering from his stroke, but his finace told KXII that he's still making progress even though doctors told her she should pull the plug on him when he was at his worst.

"He's not even bedridden anymore," Davis says. "He's been through the wheelchair phase of it and just today they took his cane from him and gave him a walking stick, so it's one more weaning process."
