About three hours ago Radio Shack  signed the dreaded Chapter 11 papers that seal there bankruptcy. General Wireless, a subsidiary of Standard General, Radio Shack's largest shareholder and lender, has agreed to buy 1,500 to 2,400 of the company's stores. The deal requires court approval, but that means that Sprint will have mini stores inside the remaining Radio Shacks. Some could still carry the Radio Shack name and some of it's products. But, for the most part say good bye to Realistic, Optimus and Tandy.

I was talking to my buddy the other day about how the Radio Shack that was within walking distance to my house was always full of wonderment and intrigue to me as a child. I can still remember Manager Rob with the big, poofy 70's hair helping me with batteries and later on Manager Mert letting me mess with the radio controlled cars and later hiring me!

It's kind of sad. In remembrance of the good ol' days here's some Radio Shack Commercials, including one that offers a new cellular phone for the bargain price of $1300.00.

1980's

And my favorite:

1995... The phones are getting smaller as we go! But Godzilla?
