A Missouri mom has a selfless teenage stranger to thank for saving the life of her baby girl.

17-year-old Abby Snodgrass was shopping in Walmart recently when she heard commotion in another aisle. Abby saw what was going on, pushed through the crowd and immediately began performing CPR on an 11-month-old baby who had suddenly stopped breathing.

“I was terrified,” Abby said. “I remember thinking… as I’m doing the compressions, ‘What if this doesn’t work?’ But I had to put it out of my mind. I can’t explain how happy I was when she started to breathe. It was a huge relief.”

According to emergency responders, if Abby hadn't bravely stepped into action, the baby might not have survived.

The baby's family told ABC news, "We are exceedingly grateful to the young woman who helped our daughter. Our daughter is home and healthy, and we couldn't be more thankful."
