Many people thought that when the calendar turned to 2021 that things would be different. You look around and nothing has changed or it feels like it's changing for the worse. The chaos at the U.S. Capitol and the coronavirus pandemic still weigh on our minds.

It's easy to get discouraged and we don't feel like we have control over what's happening. So what do we do? There was a suggestion given to me and it can be summed up in one word? PERSEVERE.

How do you persevere? There's a saying that may help put it in perspective, "let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." You may not be able to control the course of the race but you can control the way you run the race.

Do you know what will help you when you run the race? Lighten your load and get rid of the unhealthy habits in your life. One of the things that I've done is get off Facebook. It's okay to check it, just don't engage.

Stop checking it when you first get up, there are better things to read in the morning. Also don't have it be the last thing you look at before you go to bed. It's kinda like your relationship with your significant other.

What Is the first thing they turn to in the morning and the last thing they see at night? You or Facebook? That will tell you what's more important in their life. Believe me, I know.

Here is something else that I think will help, I know it helps me. YOU NEED TO LAUGH MORE. I've been told that I laugh all the time, especially on the radio. It's amazing how my whole day changes for the better and I hope it makes your boat better too.

If you find yourself getting discouraged, keep this in mind: Perseverance isn't perfection, it's direction. You won't always get it right and you may not be the best but don't quit, sometimes just being there can make all the difference.

Are you tempted to stop? Run with perseverance. Live long and live healthy because that's perseverance. Don't give up, keep at it and you'll see the change.

Are you headed in the right direction?
