New York State just increased minimum wage and more and more companies are hiring, but it still feels like a struggle to keep our heads above water at times, doesn't it?

For months on end, economists have been telling us that the Great Recession is over, but according to a new survey, most Americans say their income isn’t even keeping up with the cost of living, with 55% saying they're falling behind.

The report supports several other studies that show Americans are still feeling financially stressed despite the fact that companies are hiring, unemployment is falling and the economy is growing.

So why do we feel like we're floundering? Well, the main reason is that income has been stalled out for years, with the median income at $51,939- roughly where it's been since 1995.
