There's a new bill in the New York Assembly that would make it illegal to tattoo or body-modify your pet in any way, but they're not stopping there.

Bill author and Manhattan Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal is also trying to include the rule that you can't declaw your cat either.

Groups like PETA, the ASPCA and the Humane Society are all against de-clawing, saying that it's just like "cutting off each finger at the last knuckle."

Those groups provide alternative solutions to de-clawing, such as providing your cat with scratch posts, trimming claws, and gluing soft plastic caps to cats' nails to prevent them from roughing up furniture.

If this law passes, it'll be the first of its kind in the United States.
