The word from The Weather Channel is not as much snow as first expected.  However, most of us could see changing weather conditions Saturday night and Sunday complete with a wintery mix making for some interesting travel. The National Weather Service in Binghamton has a Winter Storm Watch in effect beginning Sunday, February 8th 12:00pm.

While most of us received 1-2" of snow Saturday morning it looks like it could turn challenging Saturday night. According to WBNG-TV Storm Tracker Weather, most areas near and east of 81 will likely see snow showers, but areas west of Binghamton could possibly begin to see a bit of wintry mix. 1-2” of snow is possible where all snow falls, with temperatures around 28-32.

The chance of precipitation Sunday is 80%. We’ve now gone from a mainly snow forecast to the possibility of a wintry mix in areas to all snow in others. There is a large amount of uncertainty with this storm. Snowfall accumulations by Sunday evening could range from 2-4”, but if any mixing occurs, these totals would be reduced significantly to perhaps nothing at all. Sunday night, it appears that any mixing will transition to all snow and it could be steady at times through Monday afternoon.

Monday looks like it could be white. The latest weather information is showing any mixing of precipitation coming to an end and a changeover to all snow taking place for everyone. Additional accumulations of snow are likely. How much snow? At this time, in areas that see all snow through the weekend and through Monday, 8-14” of snow is possible. However, if any periods of mixed precipitation occur, these totals could be reduced significantly. Elevation could also have a very large impact on potential snowfall totals. Please continue to monitor the forecast and we’ll bring details to you as we know them.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be fairly quiet and seasonable with highs in the 20s. We could see a return to arctic conditions by later next week.
