Someday, a woman may demonstrate that she’s able to play in the NFL, but that woman wasn’t Lauren Silberman on Sunday. Silberman, the female kicker who became the first woman to try out at an NFL regional combine, lasted just two kicks before halting her workout because of a leg injury.

A gaggle of media camped at the New York Jets’ practice facility to see Silberman, who along with 36 other kickers, was hoping to impress NFL scouts. Silberman grabbed at her right leg after her very first kick, which traveled less than 20 yards. Her second boot was worse, traveling just a little over 10 yards. Silberman, 28, claimed afterward that she suffered a quadriceps injury while practicing earlier in the week. She may receive another opportunity at a future camp because of the injury.

“They certainly didn’t go as far as they were in practices,” Silberman said, “but I tried to work through the pain. You know, the distance wasn’t there, but hopefully the scouts will notice my technique,” she said. “It’s not always length.”

Um. WAT! Silberman should not have participated if she was injured. If I was a kicking hopeful and unleashed the same kicks as Silberman on Sunday, the footage would be blooper reel fodder for years. Silberman made Charlie Brown look like Morten Andersen. I should know, I played Charlie Brown in a high school play.

The other thing that has grabbed everyone's attention is her comments about length and technique.  Finally a woman has agreed with what males have been saying since Adam was kicked out of the Garden.
