The Village of Homer Police Department says that they're investigating an attempted child abduction and ask for help from the public with possible leads.

According to police, the attempted abduction took place on Elm Street in the Village of Homer at 3:45pm on Thursday September 4, 2014. At the time of the attempt, an unknown white middle aged man, described as being chubby, clean shaved, with short dark hair, drove up to a 10-year-old-girl who was walking home alone from school.

The unknown man asked the girl to get in the car with him. The girl fled the scene on foot and ran home. The unknown man left the scene before police arrived.

Homer Police say the man was driving an older model, possibly a 2005 or 2006, mid-sized gray colored sedan, possibly a Buick. The car had rust around the rear driver's side fender and a yellow colored license plate.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and ask that anyone with information regarding this incident or the person/vehicle in question call the Village of Home Police Department at 607-749-2022.
