The field for next weeks DICK'S Sporting Goods Open continues to grow. 3 rookies and a couple of 2nd year vets have signed on.

Stephen Ames and Woody Austin are in their 2nd season on the Champions Tour. Champions Tour Rookies Carlos Franco, Jesper Parnevik, and Jerry Smith are also coming to En-Joie Golf Course.

Woody finished tied for 2nd last year and looks to dethrone Bernard Langer. He's also currently 6th on the Charles Schwab Cup Points list.

Stephen has four Top Ten finishes this year on the Champion Tour.

Jesper had spent 38 weeks in the Top Ten of Official World Golf Ranking in 2000-2001. He's known for the way his hat is flipped up in the front.

Carlos was the 1999 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year and Jerry was victorious last month in Chicago. The tournament itself is next Friday (8/28) through Sunday (8/30).

There's a lot going on besides golf. One of the things that I'm looking forward to is the Johnny Hart Memorial Christian Fellowship Breakfast at the Kalurah Building in Endicott on Thursday the 27th.

It begins at 7:30am and is hosted by The Golf Channel's Dave Marr III. Loren Roberts, Mike Goodes, Lee Janzen, and 1996 B.C. Open Champion (and one of my favorites) Fred Funk will share how faith has played in their daily lives and their golf game.

All proceeds benefit the CHOW Food Bus. Tickets are available through the Broome County Council of Churches and at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Open Office at En-Joie Golf Course.

You can also get tickets at the door but I got a table of 10 ahead of time so I can sit with my friends. Anytime that you can talk golf AND have breakfast with Christian athletes, that's a good way to start your day.

Other events include the Health Expo and Golf Show with Nancy Lopez for the 3rd year on Wednesday the 26th.

The Friday night (8/28) concert with Lady Antebellum and Sam Hunt. The Wendy's Walk for Kids will end with a walk down the 18th on Sunday the 30th.

To see all thing's DSG Open, go here. Oh and in case you were wondering, it's the weekend before Labor Day.
