Be prepared to put on your patience pants because over the course of the next few days, traffic is expected to be extremely heavy in the Greater Binghamton area due to Binghamton University move in and the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.

Binghamton University students are preparing to go back to classes starting on Monday the 31st and that means it's time for dorm move in. Students will be moving back into their dorms on campus in Vestal as well as into apartments throughout the city of Binghamton and other parts of our community.

In addition to BU move in weekend, the Dick's Sporting Goods Open tees off this Friday, August 28th and runs through Sunday the 30th.

In a press release, Broome County Executive Debbie Preston said, "though this weekend will be one of the busiest Broome County has seen all summer, both of these events are great for our community. With so many visitors to our area, the local economy will greatly benefit from hundreds of people bringing business to our local restaurants, stores and hotels.

In advance of these events, it might be a good idea to prepare yourself for heavy traffic and delays in the areas of Endicott and Vestal, specifically around the Vestal Parkway (Route 434) and Route 17C (Main Street, Endicott). Traffic is also expected to be pretty heavy on Riverside Drive in Binghamton.

"We are expecting thousands of people to come to our community during this very bust week," says Preston. "We want to warn people there will be more cars on the road and ask that people pay attention while on our roadways."
