Back Talk – Anywhere But Home For The Holidays

My boyfriend, Sam, and I are going to take our first vacation together over the holidays. The problem is, I want a magical white Christmas and he wants surf and sun. Sam has always wanted to spend Christmas on the beach, but I simply can’t imagine spending December 25th covered in sweat. How do we decide which way to go without this becoming a huge fight? 

My Answer:

Desiree, As you know a relationship is a two-way street. Consider how many Snow filled Christmas Holidays you've had and how many sun and sweat filled he has had. Since you told me he has always wanted to go to a beach, he hasn't had a Christmas beach vacation at all. You don't want to look selfish in this situation so see if you could go all in on his wishes for this one.

If the lack of snow while tearing into your gifts is a real downer for you maybe you could arrange two Christmas celebrations for both of you. Open one or two gifts in the sand and save the rest for when you return. Getting all those wrapped presents on the plane will be a difficult situation to say the least!  Besides I'm sure Jesus won't mind that you extended his birthday party and you'll still enjoy watching Sam shoveling after you open that new juicer. Who knows maybe he has an engagement ring unveiling planned at the beach!
