It was 12 years ago today that NASCAR lost one of the greatest drivers of all time. I’ll never forget the day Dale Earnhardt died.  I’d never watched a single NASCAR race in my life, but had the radio on as I was traveling from Albany back home to Vermont and I don’t know what made me listen to the NASCAR race that day, but I did and I heard the crash that took Dale’s life.

At the time of his death, I didn’t even know who Dale Earnhardt was, but started to cry because it was just so sad to listen to the horror unfold on the radio. 12 years ago today is when I stated to follow NASCAR.  I’ve been to a couple races since, but no NASCAR memory sticks out in my mind more than the day Dale lost his life.

Where were you on the day NASCAR lost a legend?
